One of the most popular franchises on the PS4 is set to return on April 20th. The 4th installment in the God of War series allows players to once again take control of the legendary character Kratos as he continues to battle the mythical monsters of mythology.
God of War 4 however has a few major differences compared to the first game. Kratos is no longer the furious war machine focused on revenge. He now has a son, Atreus who is a master with the bow. Atreus tags along with Kratos during combat situations & can be used to translate magical inscriptions or runes.
Another big change for Kratos is that he is no longer fighting monsters from Greek mythology but now battling ones from Norse mythology. GoW4 Director Cory Barlog addressed this change during a Gamespot interview suggesting that Kratos might have taken a trip from Greece to Norway after the events of GoW3. Don't expect a Viking game however as Barlog suggests that there is an amazing pre-history where Thor, Loki & Odin walked the Earth. It will be interesting to see where they take this game!
God of War games traditionally didn't take that long to complete. Expect this one to be a bit longer as Barlog has revealed that GoW4 takes 25 to 35 hours to finish, nearly double the average of the first 3 games. Combat is also different. Gone are the Blades of Athena, instead Kratos now has an ordinary axe that can also be used as a projectile. There are rumors that Kratos might even be able to wield Thor's hammer.
Sony recently announced that there are 4 editions of the game available to purchase. Besides the standalone game, there is a deluxe version of the game for $70, a collector's edition that has a mean looking statue of Kratos & Atreus for $129 & a stone mason edition which contains all the items of the collector's edition plus a few more exclusives like keychains & digital content for $150. The big bundle is the PS4 Pro edition that sees the console itself presented in a God of War theme for $400. I recently upgraded to a white PS4 Pro & I wish I had waited for this one.
There is no doubt that this game will do well sales wise. Being that this is one of the console exclusives for the Playstation, Sony will do everything in its power to make sure this game is close to flawless as possible. April 20th can't get here fast enough!
