The Fortnite Phenomenon

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds took the gaming world by storm last year by throwing 100 armed players into a shrinking arena & watching them battle it out to find out who could be the last gamer standing. The concept has appeared in many other games since it's release including the Grand Theft Auto series. One game took the concept & added a few quirks to make it feel completely different from Battlegrounds.

Epic Game's Fortnite: Battle Royale takes the concept & runs with it. While it's cartoony look might cause some gamers to pass it up, the gameplay certainly makes up for it. Players acquire random weapons randomly distributed within the map each ranging from a regular white weapon to it's best golden version. At the same time, you are on the clock, as every few minutes the map shrinks, bringing you closer & closer to an inevitable final battle where you aim to be the last player or team standing.

The major difference between this game & Battlegrounds is the ability to build small structures either in battle or to gain a tactical advantage on the map. Not every gamer loves this mechanic but this certainly adds an interesting wrinkle to the battle.

The best part of Fortnite: Battle Royale is that it is a free to play game! Fortnite is actually split into 2 games, Fortnite: Battle Royale & Fortnight: Save The World, where players build a base & protect it from hordes of monsters. If you want that experience, you do have to pay to play it although patient gamers will be able to play that version for free later this year.

Millions of gamers have accepted the challenge to find out if they are good enough to be the last one standing. If you are a gamer, you owe it to yourself to try this game. Who knows, you might find yourself enjoying it.
